Les Miserables
Les Miserables or Les Mis as it is more commonly known is the longest running musical on the stage of London’s West End. The musical opened in 1985 at the Royal Shakespeare Company Barbican Theatre after being translated into English by Herbert Kretzmer and James Fenton after its release in French in 1980. The musical, which tells the story of the heartache and struggles within the French revolution, has been successfully running in the West End since.
Les Miserables continued its success at it opened in New York’s Broadway in 1987 where it received much of the same enthusiasm. The musical received various Tony Awards for the performance on Broadway including the award for Best Musical. The fantastic success of the musical has ensured that to this day it is still considered a must see musical.
Les Miserables is currently showing in the West End’s Queen’s Theatre and is booking until Saturday 27th February 2010 as it was extended for the original end date of April 2009 due to high demand for tickets. However, it is still very much in demand so pre-booking tickets is essential if you wish to get cheap tickets to Les Miserables.
