The Lion King

ImageThe Lyceum Theatre has been the home of Lion King the musical since October 1999. The classic Disney film transferred to the stage in 1997 where it opened at the Orpheum Theatre in Minnesota. The performance gained the interest of Broadway and it was quickly moved to the stages of New York. The rave reviews of the musical led to British interest, The Lion King opened at the Lyceum Theatre on the West End of London in October 1999. The production of the musical gained eleven nominations for Tony Awards thanks to performances in New York.

The Lion King successfully won six Tony Awards which included the award for Best Musical and Best Director. The musical that has been successfully selling out shows for over a decade continues with its success. The story tells of a lion family who have just had a baby, Simba. As the son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi, Simba is set to take the throne and rule over the kingdom of Pride Rock. However, King Mufasa’s brother, Scar, takes an immediate disliking to Simba as he poses as the only threat to his chances of claiming the throne. The bitter brother causes drama and trauma throughout this children friendly musical.
