We Will Rock You

ImageMay 14th 2002 saw the opening of the West End musical We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre. The musical plays tribute to the British rock band Queen. The musical has a futuristic setting in a world named Planet Mall. The world is controlled by Globalsoft Corporation. The world is highly controlled and is totally standardised. A young man called Galileo is frustrated by the bland nature of the world around him and despite the lack of music in the Globalsoft Corporation he hears music in his head and fights the controlled world around him.

The musical involves many of the hit songs in Queen including includes ‘I Want to Break Free’, ‘Under Pressure’, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, ‘These are the Days of Our Lives’, ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’, ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ and ‘Another One Bites the Dust’. The opening performance was not well received well by the critics but was an instant success with the audiences. We Will Rock You continues to stimulate audiences to this day and the performances at the Dominion Theatre, where it is currently showing, are still experiencing sell out shows. The jukebox musical has become a modern theatre classic not to be missed. A point to remember when buying tickets for most west end shows is to check whether the agent is member of SOLT. SOLT members work within certain guidelines including maximum booking fees and other related charges.
