Wicked
The musical ‘Wicked’ first hit the stage in London’s West End during September 2006. Previously to this the musical had premiered in San Francisco in 2003 and quickly moved to Broadway later that same year. The musical is based on the Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
The story is a parallel of the classical Wizard of Oz story, however, it is told through the prospective of the witches. The musical was produced by Universal Pictures and with this backing was almost guaranteed success. The move on to the West End in 2006 brought the musical further success as it became broke the record for the starting week box office sales and grossed over £100,000 in the first hour that tickets went on sale.
The musical has been continuing at this level of success and is currently showing at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Tickets are still very much in demand so pre-booking is necessary. The musical has toured internationally to great acclaim including performances in over 30 cities in Canada and the United States, Australia, Japan and of course on the West End in London. The musical has become a firm favourite worldwide.
